On This Day 1892

In 2020, CINER will be celebrating 128 successful years of business. To commemorate this achievement, we decided to look back and see what was going on in 1892, when Emanuel Ciner first opened CINER’s door on Maiden Lane.

JANUARY 1:

One fact we found incredibly interesting, and probably one of the most historical things to happen in the United States, is that on January 1, 1892, Ellis Island opened as a US immigration inspection station. Ellis Island, as we know, becomes a gateway to the US for more than 12 million people. We know the United States is known metaphorically as a melting pot, where cultures and ethnicities assimilate as one; we have Ellis Island to thank for that! Many of our ancestors came to the United States, through this immigration port, so their families can have a better life. Isn’t it crazy to think CINER has been around as long as something as historical as Ellis Island!?
